The articles goes through the traditional view of custody and how it has evolved because of fathers advocacy groups. Father's advocacy groups have argued that joint custody where the father has more than every other weekend custody with the children is best for the children as studies have shown.

Moreover the article examines the relationship of custody time and child support which provides fathers with an incentive to spend more time with their children.

The issue of mothers bias in custody situations is examined as well. In California the law is that gender is not used as a preference in awarding custody however, bias of the judges and mediators do exist.
